I adopted Iggy when he was five years old in November 2008, five months before I got a diagnosis that I had a breast cancer. When I first brought Iggy home he was a very sick boy. He had heartworms and was ready for his second round of treatments. From the first day he stepped into my home we were bonded. He has brought so much comfort and joy to my life. He was always at my side through some of my darkest moments and was there during the brightest. He is almost 12 now, has hip issues, arthritis and has become blind in his senior years . When I see him run into things, my heart just breaks. It’s my time to comfort him and keep a diligent eye on him as he has always done for me. I want to suggest that when you are thinking about adopting a pet, give the older ones a chance. You will never regret your decision, they might not be in your life as long as a young dog but they will love and be as grateful for you giving them a home as any young puppy. Maybe even more so.

So my friend, I raise a toast to you and to however many more years we have together. For you and your quirky ways brighten my days.
